Dr. Sherry Lynne Munn, age 81, died Oct. 21, 2025, in Tyler, Texas. Sherry was born on Dec. 25, 1943, in Paris, Texas, to Dorothy and Leonard Coker. She was raised in Paris and graduated from Paris HS and then attended college at E. Texas State University in Commerce, Texas, where she earned a master's degree in English. In her early career, she was a Kindergarten teacher in Waxahachie, Texas, taught Special Ed in Tyler for several years and then went on to teach Psychology and Speed Reading at TJC for 3-4 more years. In the early 80s she decided to go back to E. Texas State and enroll in the doctoral program. In 1984 she earned her Doctorate in Education and opened a private practice as a Licensed Professional Counselor in Tyler, specializing in marriage and family and addictions. In her 20+ years as an LPC, she changed many lives with her professional and passionate approach to counseling.
As a young child, Sherry loved playing outdoors, had a vivid imagination, endless energy and loved to climb trees. She loved learning and reading, and of course, was an excellent student and teacher's favorite. She was a wonderful cook and loved entertaining and hosting parties. Sherry was also very creative and artistic, and if you ever received a gift from her, you know it was a work of art. She made every holiday special and went out of her way to make others feel special, too. She was an avid movie fan, loved traveling and playing games with family and friends. Many may not know, but she loved fishing and even took the fish off the hook herself. Sherry was also elegant and classy and had a fancy for the finer things in life, but more than anything else, she absolutely delighted in having a really good laugh. She was tender-hearted, sensitive, thoughtful and loving and was loved by all who knew her.
Sherry was preceded in death by her parents, Dorothy and Leonard Coker, and her brother, Jack Coker.
She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Michael, her son, Jeffrey and wife, Marie, of Tyler, her daughter, Amanda, and husband, Rick, of Wills Point, Texas, and grandsons, Eric and Jack Johns.
