Phyllis Marie Genest

Phyllis Genest, age 84, passed away peacefully on September 25, 2026, in Tyler, Texas.

She was born on June 27, 1942, in Houston, Texas, to Louis-Philipe Genest and Carmelite Felice Landry Genest. She was raised in Houston and graduated from Incarnate Word High School in 1960. She went on to earn her RN degree from Saint Mary's School of Nursing in 1963, followed by a degree in Social Work from Lamar University in 1990 and a Social Work certification in 1991. Phyllis worked as a nurse for most of her life, dedicating herself to caring for others.

Phyllis married Angelo Antonio Onofrio on August 24, 1963. Together they had three children: Colette, Laurie, and Mark. On February 14, 2001, she married John Snook, with whom she shared many happy years and a loving life together.

Phyllis was a sweet, kind, and loving woman whose greatest joy was her family. She lived in Chandler, Texas, where she shared her life with her beloved husband, John. She treasured time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and extended family. Through her marriage to John, she also became a cherished part of his family, forming close relationships and creating many special memories. Family was at the heart of Phyllis's life, and she was happiest when surrounded by the people she loved.

Phyllis had a lifelong love of reading. After retiring, she continued to share that passion by volunteering at her local library for many years. She was also a member of book clubs throughout her life, where she enjoyed not only the books, but the friendships, conversations, and connections that came with them.

In her younger years, Phyllis enjoyed playing tennis and singing in her church choir. She had a beautiful singing voice, and music remained a meaningful part of her life.

Phyllis loved to travel and enjoyed exploring the country. She also had the opportunity to travel to Europe several times, making wonderful memories along the way. At home, she found happiness in gardening and flowers. She especially loved butterflies and hummingbirds, which seemed to reflect her gentle and beautiful spirit.

Phyllis will be remembered for her kindness, gentle nature, loving heart, and the warmth she brought to those around her. She had a way of making people feel loved and welcomed, and she treasured the relationships she built throughout her life. To Phyllis, family was not defined only by blood, but also by the love, friendship, and connections shared with others.

Above all, Phyllis leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and cherished memories. Her gentle spirit, beautiful voice, love of family, and appreciation for life's simple pleasures will remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, Louis-Philipe Genest and Carmelite Felice Landry Genest, and her stepdaughter, Norine Lenore Snook Lozano.

She is survived by her beloved husband, John Snook; her children: daughter Colette Onofrio Baker and son-in-law John David Baker, daughter Laurie Onofrio Mahan and son-in-law Derek Mahan, and son Mark Onofrio and daughter-in-law Karen Dawson Onofrio; her grandchildren: Jeanne-Marie Baker Minter, Ryan Baker, Peyton Mahan, Ellie Mahan Schirm, and Alec Onofrio; and her great-grandchildren: Gabriella Susi, Allie Baker, Austin Baker, Daniella Minter, Isabella Minter, Noah Mahan, Adam Mahan, and Archer Mahan.

She is also survived by John's daughter, Nadine Snook Bird, and son-in-law, Timothy Bird; their children: Amanda Bird Lamb, Melanie Bird McFarlane, Ryan Bird, and Nathan Bird; and their spouses and children, who were all a cherished part of Phyllis's extended family.

A memorial service will be held at 1876 Chapel at Walnut Grove on Saturday, October 3, 2026, at 2:00 p.m., under the direction of Brosang Family Funeral Home, with Timothy Bird officiating.

Honorary pallbearers will be Mark Onofrio, John David Baker, Derek Mahan, Ryan Baker, Peyton Mahan, and Alec Onofrio.
