Michael Lynn Matthews, affectionately known to his friends and family as Mike, passed away on January 9, 2026, in Tyler, Texas, where he was also born on December 20, 1951. He is remembered not only for his warm and friendly personality, embodying the essence of a “good ole' boy,” but also for his contributions to his community and service to his country.
Mike’s professional journey began after high school, which was followed by some collegiate education. He dedicated a significant part of his career to security, culminating in a managerial role at the Emerald Bay Club in Bullard, Texas. His commitment to ensuring safety and fostering a sense of community made a positive impact on those around him.
In addition to his professional life, Mike served his country proudly in the U.S. Navy. His military service further exemplified his character of dedication and duty.
Mike was known for his vibrant social life, particularly his involvement with the "Really Old Men Eating Out" (ROMEO) group, where he formed lasting friendships while sharing meals and camaraderie. He also enjoyed riding his motorcycle, an activity that brought him joy and freedom.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Elmer Eugene Matthews and Pearl Agnes (McKinney) Matthews, who were a part of his foundational years.
