Kris Lee Lawson, an unwavering fixture of love and strength, graced this world on December 25, 1956, in Houston, Texas, and departed to the embrace of those he loved on October 4, 2025, in Tyler, Texas. With a career that spanned ship mechanics, granite layering, automotive repairs, and valve technology, Kris was not just a man of exquisite skill but rather a craftsman whose hands brought solutions to mechanical challenges far and wide.
Kris built his life on a foundation of family. A devoted husband to his beloved wife, Sarah Lawson, he took on the role of a father with grace, embracing his stepsons - David Vargo, Bryan Vargo, and Stephen Vargo - as his own. The arrival of his daughter, Jennifer McDonald, brought him immeasurable joy, and he shared this love fully, treating each one of them as an integral thread in the fabric of his life. His bond with family extended beyond the immediate, intricately weaving together relationships with grandchildren, including Abigail, Robert, Spencer, Peyton, Amelia, Tyler, Cody, Jacob, Destiny, and Collin Vargo, along with six cherished great-grandchildren. two nephews, Jay Miller and A.J. Jackson and his niece, Kandace. 2 Sisters Kim Miller, and Kelly Jackson. Each family event became a celebration of memories, particularly as he reveled in the sweet melodies of his granddaughter's songs at football games and the honor of witnessing his grandson's achievements in the Civil Air Patrol. The legacy of love he nurtured will echo in their hearts forever.
Kris's familial devotion found its roots deep within the laughter and gatherings of his siblings and parents. He treasured the moments spent together, relishing family reunions that brought joy and connection. He was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth Lawson, and his mother, Ruth McCoy Lawson, both of whom had instilled in him values of hard work and compassion.
He was not only a family man but also a friend to many, holding close the camaraderie forged with childhood friends, Jimmy King and Mike Allen. These friendships were steeped in years of shared experiences, adventures, and the laughter that resonates through the walls of shared memory.
His remarkable career achievements are a testament to his mechanical prowess. Whether working on a valve for NASA, patching the historic Texas Battleship, or adding granite to the Houston Texaco building, Kris made it his mission to face each challenge with ingenuity and determination. His talent was not confined to professional work; he willingly extended his abilities to family, co-workers, and anyone who sought his expertise, embodying the very spirit of helping hands.
Beyond the realm of work, Kris found solace in nature. The great outdoors called to him, and he took enormous pride in cultivating his yard, where mowing was transformed from a chore into a joyful pursuit. At his cherished Lake House, he delighted in watching wildlife roam freely, finding profound peace in the simplicity of nature's rhythms.
As we gather to honor and remember Kris, let us carry forward his legacy of compassion, his zest for life, and his extraordinary ability to connect with others.
