John Edgar Welch, 93, of Austin, Texas, passed away peacefully on October 20, 2025, at 1:28 p.m., surrounded by loving family.
John was born on February 7, 1932, in Harlingen, Texas, to John Delmas Welch and Helen Virginia Eaton Welch. Growing up in Tyler, Texas, he graduated from Tyler High, followed by the University of Houston, then completed his Bachelor of Science degree at Baylor University in Waco, Texas.
John proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, receiving an honorable discharge. After his service, he dedicated many years as a devoted manager at Brooks Instrument Division in Houston, Texas.
John eventually retired to Magnolia, Texas, where he enjoyed living near his beloved sister Mary Russell and niece Donna Grahmann. In later years, he made his home in Austin, Texas, sharing a residence with his nephew Hardy Davis, where he spent his final three years surrounded by family care and affection from his nephews Hardy and Carter Davis, alongside his niece Donna Grahmann.
John had a zest for life and a heart full of kindness. He found joy in golfing and bowling, and cherished the memories of family vacations, often accompanied by one of his favorite songs, "Cool Water" by The Sons of the Pioneers.
A faithful servant of God, John was a dedicated member and Deacon at Magnolia First Baptist Church. His faith was his foundation, and his favorite verse was Revelation 3:20, and his cherished hymn was "The Old Rugged Cross."
John was preceded in death by his beloved parents, John Delmas Welch and Helen Eaton Welch; brother-in-law Donald Russell; nephews John Russell and David Russell; sister Betty Welch Davis; brother-in-law Neil Davis; niece Danna Champion; and great nephew Travis Cameron.
He is survived by his loving sister Mary Welch Russell; niece Donna Grahmann and her spouse David; nephews Hardy Davis and Carter Davis; along with many beloved great-nieces and nephews, who will forever remember his warmth, humor, and gentle spirit.
His family takes comfort in knowing he has found eternal peace in the presence of the Lord he served so faithfully.
