John Newton Shieldes

A Memorial Mass for John Newton Shieldes, 69, of Tyler will be held 11:00 AM, Monday, September 15, 2025 at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, 423 S. Broadway Ave., Tyler, Texas 75702, with The Very Reverend Hank Lanik officiating. Visitation is scheduled from 10:00-10:45AM at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception prior to the Mass.

Mr. Shieldes passed away September 5, 2025 in Tyler. He was born October 4, 1955 to Berman Fielder Shieldes and Beatrice Zwan Shieldes. John graduated from Bishop Gorman High School and attended Tyler Junior College. He was an oil and gas landman for 39 years and loved driving his jeeps, listening to the Moody Blues and watching the Dallas Cowboys.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Dan Shieldes and his faithful furry companion, Jazzy.

John is survived by his loving sister, Kathy Shieldes Harry and husband, Kent; his brother, Timothy B. Shieldes and numerous nieces and nephews.
