John Ross Maples, 77, passed away on July 28, 2026, in Tyler, Texas.
Born on August 19, 1948, to the late William Ross Maples and Joyce Elizabeth Maples, John was raised in Houston and graduated from Galena Park High School in 1966.
John was a man of quiet strength, understated wisdom, and steady devotion. He moved through life with a gentle patience-seen in the simple solace he found in reading, the quiet hours he spent fishing, and the humble way he served others without ever seeking recognition. His faith as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was not expressed through grand gestures, but through a life of selfless stewardship and genuine kindness.
The profound center of John's life was his love for his family. For 35 years, he walked hand-in-hand with his wife, Linda, offering her a steady, enduring affection and reminding her often that he loved her "more than all the stars in heaven." Together, they built a home grounded in faith and warmth, raising twelve children and embracing the quiet joy of 30 grandchildren. John's devotion to them was constant and unwavering; his presence was a source of comfort, guidance, and peace to all who relied on him.
John was preceded in death by his parents, William and Joyce Maples; his sisters, Patricia Ann McGuire and Martha Frances Maples; and his grandson, Bentley Hall Maples.
He leaves behind a grieving family who will forever honor his memory: his wife, Linda Maples; his sister, Beth (Keith) Sykora; his brothers, David Wayne Maples and Gregg Allen Maples; his daughters, Rebekah, Rachael, Cinnamon, Shanna, Havilah, Victoria, Serenity, Erin, and Sarah; his sons, Shiloh, Levis, and John; his 30 grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 12:00 PM to 12:30 PM, Saturday, August 8, 2026, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1617 Shiloh Road, Tyler, Texas.
Funeral Service will be held at 12:30 PM, Saturday, August 8, 2026 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, with Brother Kourt Chatelain officiating.
Graveside Service will follow at 3:00 PM at Zion Hill Cemetery, 3558 CR 368, Henderson, Texas, under the direction of Brosang Family Funeral & Cremation Services. Pallbearers will be: Christopher, Benjamin, Shiloh, John, Levis and Mikel.
