Jeneva Kathryn "Kate" Boyd passed away peacefully on Monday, March 23, 2026 at her home with her family in Tyler, Texas. Kate was born March 17, 1944 in, Lubbock, Texas, to Dan and Ada Mae Boyd and was raised in the oilfield boomtowns of West Texas and New Mexico. She graduated from Harwood Girls School in Albuquerque in 1962, where she made many life-long and cherished friends. Kate then went on to study at Barnes Business School in Denver, Colorado.
For two decades, she worked as an administrator for Nordis of Dallas. She spent sixteen years at Texas Utilities Mine Operations as one of the first women to ever work in the mud and muck of the pit until, after several years, she transferred to the warehouse. Later, she worked as a unit secretary at Mother Frances Hospital. There, she met Dr. Brian Pfeiffer and Deborah, who needed a babysitter for their newborn son Jakob. Kate volunteered and word spread quickly through the hospital. Thus began her time as "Nanny" to more than a dozen children, whom she helped raise from infancy to young adulthood. She referred to them all as "my kids" and those experiences and relationships brought more joy and love into her life than she had ever known.
Kate was an avid player of games - most notably 42 and mahjong. She loved her family and her church community and each of the deep and abiding friendships she found there.
Kate was preceded in death by her father, Dan Boyd; mother, Ada Mae Brooks; her step-mother, Sybil Boyd; and her step-sister, Betty Trahan.
She is survived by her sister, Joe Ann Peters; step-brothers James Griffin (Kathy), Gene Griffin (Caroline), and Joe Griffin (Nita); her nephew, Philip Seth Arrington; her niece, Kathryn Arrington Silvertooth; and her great-nephew, Marcus Silvertooth.
A memorial service is being held for friends and family at 10am on June 27 at Southern Oaks Baptist Church in Tyler, TX.
