Janet Morphis McDade, age 70, passed away on May 3, 2026. Janet was born November 2, 1955 in Tyler, Texas where she was raised by her parents N. A. and Margaret Morphis. She was happily married to her husband, soulmate, partner, and friend Michael "Mike" McDade of Houston, Texas for 27 years.
Janet immensely enjoyed spending time with, and feeding good food to, her family and friends. She dabbled in growing several different plants, which she tended to with that same nurturing care.
Janet worked in several different positions throughout the years. In the 90's, she worked at Kelly Springfield Credit Union. Since she and her family lived in Indian Creek, she would often recognize her treasured customers, and they were always happy to see her. For many years she worked with special needs adults, giving them an opportunity to work and be the best they could be. Eventually she retired from the Smith County Juvenile Detention Center, where she was blessed by some truly awesome coworkers.
Her super power was turning ordinary moments into magic. Her famous stew fixed every bad day, her sweet hugs had healing powers, and her vivacious personality could lighten up even the darkest of days. There were no grand gestures but rather small, perfect moments.
Janet taught those around her that life doesn't need perfection, it just needs presence, patience, and occasionally a bowl of her stew! Every challenge she approached was met with her signature mix of pure tenacity, grit, and determination.
In addition to her parents, Janet was preceded in death by her sister-in-law Deborah Morphis and her grandson Noah Boone.
She is survived and lovingly remembered by her husband, Mike McDade; her son, Daniel Phillips; her daughter, Shannon (Kendell) Kendrick and grand-dog Khloe; sister, Sharon (Larry) Fuller; brother, Buddy Morphis; nieces, Leah Rivera, Laura Garvey, and Mikki Francis; nephews, Joseph Francis and Steven Fuller; and many great, and great-great, nieces and nephews.
She touched so many lives and left us with so many memories. She will be dearly missed.
