James "Jed" Dillingham, Jr.

James Edward Dillingham, Jr. (Jed), age 72, of Whitehouse, TX passed from this life into the eternal presence of God on Sunday, November 2. Born in Texarkana, Arkansas in 1953 he lived a life devoted to faith, family, service, and the beauty of the outdoors.

A graduate of the Music program at Stephen F. Austin State University, Jed shared his musical gifts playing piano for several United Methodist congregations where he was a lifelong member. Jed enjoyed composing and performing music throughout his life.

Jed served his community as an insurance agent for many years and also as a member of the city council. His commitment to civic life extended to his involvement with the Tri-County Leader newspaper as a photojournalist, capturing local life through his lens.

Scouting was a lifelong passion for Jed. From his youth through adulthood, he exemplified the values of the Scout Oath and Law. He participated and led many adventures including treks to Philmont Scout Ranch and George W. Pirtle Scout Reservation in East Texas.

An avid backpacker and camper, Jed found peace and purpose in nature, spending many days and evenings exploring the mountains of God's creation.

Jed is survived by his sister Janice Stark of Teague, his three sons and their wives - Scott & Sarah Dillingham of Whitehouse, Randy & Jennifer Dillingham of Waco, and Skylar and Aimee Dillingham of Dallas. Jed is also survived by his three favorite relatives - his grandsons Randon & Jackson Dillingham of Waco and Solomon Dillingham of Whitehouse. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Louise Dillingham and his older sister Jennifer Green.

A service to celebrate Jed will be held on Wednesday, November 26th at 10:00 A.M. at Chapelwood Memorial Gardens in Texarkana. Friends and family are welcome to attend and share memories of his life.
