Hestermae Walker Nixon, a cherished teacher and beloved member of the Emerald Bay Community, passed away peacefully on December 21, 2025, in Bullard, Texas. Born on August 4, 1928, in Lufkin, Texas, Hestermae devoted her life to nurturing the minds and spirits of her students at First Baptist Midland and the City of Midland, instilling a love of learning at a very young age.

Hestermae was not just a dedicated educator; she was a pillar of strength and kindness to all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her spirit shone brightly in every corner of her life, from the classroom to her loving home. She was deeply passionate about fostering creativity and curiosity among young learners, leaving an indelible mark in the hearts of students and colleagues alike.

She will be profoundly missed by her loving daughters, Sherry Nixon Vaughan, Dorothy Nixon and Cary Stidham, who carry forward her legacy of compassion and intelligence. Hestermae was also proud of her grandchildren - Amber Munos, Lindsey Knowles, Kendall Lowry, and Shelby Stidham - and her heart swelled with joy as she embraced her six great-grandchildren. They brought her immense happiness and love, and she cherished each moment spent with them.

Remaining close to Hestermae were her nephews, K. P. Walker III and Christopher Walker, and her niece, Amy Proctor, who admired her wisdom and warmth. Each family gathering shone brighter with her presence and laughter, as she shared stories of love and lessons learned throughout her remarkable life.

Hestermae was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Edwin Franklin Nixon, who undeniably held a special place in her heart. Together they created a beautiful life filled with love, joy, and warmth. Hestermae also mourned the passing of her dear parents, Kerfoot Pollock, Sr. and Nell (Walton) Walker, whose values and dedication shaped the woman she became and her brother, K. P. Walker, Jr.

A memorial service is pending, with a private graveside service to be held at Huntington Cemetery in Huntington, Texas. As we remember Hestermae, we celebrate a life well-lived, filled with love, dedication, and the joy of teaching. Her spirit will continue to guide those who met her, a constant reminder of the impact that kindness and encouragement can have on the world.

Donations in Hestermae's honor may be made to the Emerald Bay Benevolence Fund or to Emerald Bay Community Church.
