Hazel L. Nelson, age 91, of Tyler, Texas, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 19, 2026, at her home.
Born on April 9, 1934, in Cullison, Kansas, Hazel was the daughter of Orvil L. and Beulah M. Baker. She cherished her childhood on the family farm and was an active member of the 4-H Club in Pratt, Kansas.
Hazel and her husband (George) loved square dancing, and together they enjoyed many years of traveling across the country and building lifelong friendships through the square-dancing community.
From 1972 to 1979, Hazel worked in the Human Resources department at Walt Disney World in Orlando, an experience that deepened her lifelong love of all things Disney. After returning to Texas in 1979, she continued her career in various secretarial roles until her retirement in the late 1990s.
Above all, Hazel treasured her roles as a mother, grandmother, and-most especially in recent years-a great-grandmother.
Hazel was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 65 years, George Nelson of Pratt, Kansas; her sister, Maxine Baker; and her brother, Marion Baker, of Cullison, Kansas.
She is survived by her daughter, Darla Adams of Tyler, Texas; her son, Derek Nelson (Lisa) of Hinesburg, Vermont; and four grandchildren: Hannah Alexander (Isreal) of Tyler, Texas; Hunter Adams (Celine) of Tyler, Texas; Heath Adams of Tyler, Texas; and Sarah Nelson (Emily) of Boston, Massachusetts. She also leaves behind one great-grandchild, Liam Alexander of Tyler, Texas.
Visitation will be held from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM on Saturday, January 31, 2026, at The Lord's House, followed by a funeral service at 1:30 PM at 3114 Van Hwy, Tyler, Texas 75702. Burial will be held at a later date at Sunset Cemetery in Cullison, Kansas.
Memorial contributions may be made to the 4-H Club of Pratt County, Kansas.
