A Catholic Mass for George Elias NeJame, 83, of Tyler, will be held on Monday, June 30, at 11:00am at Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, 423 S. Broadway, in Tyler. Private burial will follow at Forest Park Cemetery in Shreveport, LA, under the direction of Brosang Family Funeral & Cremation Services.
Visitation will start at 5:00pm followed by a Rosary at 6:00p.m. on Sunday, June 29, at Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception.
George was born September 13, 1941, in Beirut, Lebanon, to Louis and Adele Noujaim, and he passed away Thursday, June 26, 2025, in Tyler.
Immigrating to the U.S. alone at the age of 16, George worked hard to learn the English language, earn an education and become a naturalized citizen of the United States of America. George's Aunt Gen and Uncle Al NeJame took him into their loving home where he worked alongside his uncle in the grocery business. He graduated from Bishop Moore High School in Orlando, FL, and went on to complete several years of trade and culinary school.
George met his wife, Delores "Dee", in 1960, and they married in 1966. A talented Chef and businessman, George managed and owned restaurants from 1970 through 1983 serving pizza, pasta, and po'boys to customers across Texas and Louisiana. Many remember The Huddle Restaurant in Shreveport, which George opened on North Market serving loyal customers for many years. For 35 years, until his retirement in 2017, George held various positions with Brookshire Grocery Company, in Shreveport and Tyler, the most recent being Deli Food Service and Catering Manager.
George was a member of The Knights of Columbus, The Cedars of Lebanon of Tyler, Texas, and The Southern Federation of Syrian Lebanese American Clubs. He was also a charter member of the Heritage Club of Houston, Texas.
George was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Adele Noujaim, Al and Gen NeJame, and in-laws, Madeline and Joe Tiller; brothers, Maurice Noujaim and Alan NeJame, and sister, Mickey NeJame Zilles.
George is survived by his loving family, including his wife of 59 years, Delores Tiller NeJame; his children, Gina (Bryan) Ginsburg, Lori (Bill) Tuttle, Michael (Sonya) NeJame, and Dana (Scott) Johnston; his grandchildren, Kyle (Kelly) Ginsburg, Kendall (Patrick) Neville, Kristen (Nick) Geisler, Brittany and Mitchell NeJame, William, Benjamin, and Zachary Tuttle, Seth and Madison Johnston, Hunter Low, and his great grandchildren, Elias and Collette Geisler, Jayce and Zoey Ginsburg, and Brooks Neville; sister, Najat (Nasri) Sawaya and sister-in-law, Diane Tiller Gainey; his brother-in-law, Randy Tiller; numerous nieces, nephews, close friends and relatives.
A true and solid example of a hardworking, Christian family man, George's children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren have countless, wonderful memories with Giddo that will last a lifetime. As much as Giddo enjoyed cooking and serving others, he loved cooking for his family the most. Sittee and Giddo knew just how to bring all the family together around the table and their kitchen was never closed. From Christmas dinners to midnight shindigs with popcorn and ice cream, you could always find Giddo in the kitchen serving up everyone's favorite. Their kitchen wasn't just a place to enjoy a meal, it is where endless love, laughter, and dance parties were shared. It's where he showed us that nothing is more important than faith and family.
Pallbearers will be George's grandsons, Kyle, Patrick, Nick, Mitchell, William, Benjamin, Hunter, Zachary, and Seth.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Alzheimer's Alliance of Tyler. Additionally, donations can be made to the Madeline and Joe Tiller Memorial Burse and mailed to the Office of Church Vocations, Diocese of Shreveport, 3500 Fairfield Ave, Shreveport, LA 71104.
The family wishes to extend special thanks to George's caregivers, Stephanie, Margaret, Paula, and Harry, to Enhabit Home Health, and to Hospice of East Texas.
