David Boyd Anderson of Tyler, Texas, was 69 years old when he died November 7, 2025 in Dallas, Texas. He was born in Dallas on March 27,1956 to Jack and Daphine Anderson. He was raised in Tyler and graduated in 1974 from Robert E. Lee High School. He earned a Bachelor of Business degree in Management at the University of Texas at Tyler and continued his education at Southwest Texas State University, now known as Texas State University, earning his BBA in Accounting.
He began working at age 14 delivering newspapers, continuing in high school as an employee of Baskin Robbins, and later, while in college, rising to Assistant Manager at Safeway. After college he began his career with the University of Texas system, retiring in 2018 as Director of Sponsored Programs at the University of Texas Health Center at Tyler, where he made many lifelong friends. After his retirement, he returned to work several times at the request of the UT Health Center, last serving as Project Manager for the installation and integration of the Cayuse Grants Management System.
David is remembered for his love for his family and friends, fierce sense of duty and loyalty, dedication to our country, devotion to our Lord, and his friendliness. He had the special talent of being able to connect and converse with everyone he met. David enjoyed cooking delicious food and sharing great beverages. He was known for collecting cast iron cookware, listening to all kinds of music, and wearing beautiful ties that were colorful and seasonal. He loved the Green Bay Packers, Texas Longhorns, and all things West Point. He loved listening to live, local music, especially Rafael Espinoza and the Rockabilly Railroad, featuring his dear friend Curtis Lane on drums, as well as Tuxedo Cats, Patrick James, and Scorch Bandicoot. Many of his friends were surprised when they learned that as a young man David rode a Harley Davidson and drove a Datsun 280Z. He loved finding a good garage sale, playing Sudoku, and seeing which birds he could attract to his bird feeders.
David also had a fine history of service. He served First Christian Church as a sound technician for over 30 years. He also was a youth sponsor, Deacon, and Elder, and served on various church committees. As a proud Eagle Scout, David began volunteering with Boy Scout Troop 335 at First Christian Church in 2003 when his son joined scouting. He earned his Wood Badge and numerous district Scouting awards. He continued volunteering with the troop until his death.
David was also a member of the Male Bonding Poker Club, where he gained many cherished friends. Additionally, he was a charter member of the True Vine Brewing Company Mug Club! David loved life, and he loved well.
David was preceded in death by both of his parents, Jack and Daphine Anderson. He is survived by his wife, Amy Mackey Anderson and children, Katie (Anna) Anderson Garbina and husband Erick, and Matt Anderson and wife Jackie, and by his brother Mark Anderson. Other beloved survivors include in-laws, nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, and other extended family members.
David's Memorial Service is scheduled for Saturday, November 22 at 10:30 A.M. at First Christian Church (4202 South Broadway in Tyler, Texas 75701) with Dr. Chris Pulliam and Rev. Ginger Brandt officiating. Visitation and Reception will follow at the church after the service. The celebration of David's life will continue at True Vine Brewing Company (2453 Earl Campbell Parkway in Tyler, Texas 75701) for additional time for fellowship.
Memorial donations in David's name may be made to First Christian Church (4202 South Broadway Tyler, TX 75701) or to Scouting America's East Texas Area Council (1331 East 5th Street Tyler, TX 75701).
