Dr. Danny Paul Pickens, received his Doctorate of Educational Ministry from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He served as Adjunct Professor for the Certificate of Ministry Class through East Texas Baptist University. Dr Danny Pickens was born February 23, 1953, passed away on April 11, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of faith, wisdom, and service.

A devoted scholar and spiritual leader, Dr. Pickens dedicated his life to the study and teaching of theology, guiding countless individuals in their spiritual journeys. Known for his deep compassion and unwavering commitment to his calling, he inspired those around him through his teachings, sermons, and personal example.

Dr. Pickens also had a deep passion for mission work, faithfully serving others both near and far. He devoted his time and energy to spreading the message of faith, offering support, hope, and love to communities in need. His missionary efforts reflected his heart for service and his desire to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others.

Beyond his ministry, Dr. Pickens had a true love for photography. As a member and contributor of the East Texas Camera Club, he found joy in capturing the beauty of God's creation and the meaningful moments of everyday life. Through his lens, he preserved memories and shared his unique perspective with others, leaving behind images that will be cherished for years to come.

After 35 years of being an avid Falconer, Danny served many roles-including President, Vice President, and Editor-during his time with the Texas Hawking Association. Danny also served as Central Director of North American Falconers Association. His love for Falconry never stopped and was a very important part of his life.

Dr. Pickens will be remembered not only for his academic achievements but also for his kindness, humility, and steadfast devotion to his family, friends, and congregation.

He was preceded in death by his father, Billy Paul Pickens and his mother, Geraldine Corley Pickens.

He is lovingly remembered by his beloved wife, Paula Pickens; his daughters, Kristi Risner and husband Steve Risner, and Tammy Pickens; his sister, Evelyn Davis and husband Mike Davis; his grandchildren, Madison Dickerson and husband Wesley Dickerson, Rylee Risner, Anna Hiller, and Abigail Hiller; and his great-granddaughters, Allie Dickerson and Addie Dickerson. He is also remembered by extended family, friends, colleagues, and all who were blessed to know him.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on April 16, 2026 at Colonial Hills Baptist Church in Tyler, TX.

Visitation will follow immediately after the service at Colonial Hills Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Dr. Danny Pickens Memorial Community Missions Scholarship through the Smith Baptist Association.

His legacy of faith, service, and creativity will continue to live on in the hearts of those he inspired.
