Charles "Chuck" Harris

Charles L. Harris, 83, of Tyler, TX , passed away peacefully on Monday, August 24, 2026, surrounded by his family and close friends.

Born on April 12, 1943 in Somerset, KY, he was the son of Henry and Mae Josephine (nee Calhoun). He grew up in Somerset, KY and Indianapolis, IN, where he was a multi-sport athlete and lettered in football.

On June 17, 1967, he married Carol M. (nee Gruber). Together they shared 56 years of marriage and raised 3 children; all while living in Indianapolis and North Carolina before settling in Texas.

He served in the US Marine Corps from 1961-1966. He served as a Plane Captain in Beaufort, SC, Guantanamo, Cuba, and aboard the USS Forrestal, CVA-59. Afterwards, he had a successful career in sales in the steel industry.

People who knew him remember a strong masculine man who was sturdy, honest, loyal, and optimistic with a quick and sardonic wit.

To his grandchildren he was Grandad or Tatu. An avid outdoorsman, he loved hunting, fishing, marksmanship, and bird watching, The family has wonderful and hilarious memories of our times on his ranch.

He is survived by sons, Brent and Braeden; daughter, Brittany; grandchildren, Raleigh, Christian, Roland, Arianna, Ryland, and Marilese; and siblings Claudena, Barbara, Richard, and Henry (Bud).

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Carol; and siblings Joyce, Gary (Mike), and Daniel.

Memorial Ceremony will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, August 28, 2026 at Rose Lawn Cemetery, 2003 Blue Mountain Blvd, Tyler, TX 75703.
